Liverpool Counts Quality Mark
The Liverpool Counts Quality Mark is part of a varied programme of strategies targeted at improving maths results for the city's children. The specific remit of the Quality Mark is to tackle the negative attitudes which are prevalent in many areas of our society towards numeracy and mathematics. We aim to challenge these widely held views and promote a culture where people readily understand the impact good numeracy skills and mathematics qualifications can have on the social, financial, health and employment aspects of their lives.
We also aim to support teachers and other adults in our schools to encourage pupils to make connections in their numeracy and mathematics lessons to real life contexts and with other areas of their school experiences.
Liverpool Writing Quality Mark
The Liverpool Writing Quality Mark is part of a varied programme of strategies targeted at improving writing outcomes and the profile of writing in our city. At Blessed Sacrament, we want to raise the profile of writing and develop a positive ethos towards it in order to create investment and enjoyment within both our school and local community. In order to do this, our aim is to develop a coherent whole-school vision for promoting writing for a real purpose and a love for the art of writing through workforce development. We aim to ensure there are opportunities for diverse purposes of writing across the school. We are passionate in creating strong links with our parents and community in order to enhance writing opportunities, and continue to investigate how we can work collaboratively to foster a love of writing.

We are so proud of our achievements that demonstrate the range and quality of our curriculum offer.
In 2019, we were delighted to be awarded the Bronze Level Liverpool Health and Wellbeing Award. As a school, we place such a high importance upon supporting the mental and physical health of all members of our community. We have 3 full time staff who form our Nurture Team as well as a committee for Wellbeing that is comprised of staff from all teams across the school including our Governing Body. This committee meets every half term and plans activities and events for all, including ideas for our new initiative - 'Wellbeing Wednesday's'. On Wellbeing Wednesday (the last Wednesday per half term), the whole school community takes part in a range of activities that relax, motivate and encourage mindfulness.
We are good Geographers!! Teachers and the Geography subject leaders worked very hard alongside the children to collate evidence to show the impact where it matters most..... on our pupils' learning and love of Geography! We love learning about the world in which we live and through our curriculum, we will strive to build upon our achievements year on year
We won the Liverpool Echo "Healthy Living Award 2019". Wow!! We entered this for the first time this year and from all the primary and secondary schools across the city who were nominated for this award - we won! It was particularly in recognition of the amazing impact that our new Edible Playground has had on the children and our staff team. The children are so much more aware now about where their food comes from. They plant it, nurture and grow it, then harvest it and then either take it home to cook, sell it to the parents or pass it to the school kitchen so it ends up on their plate at lunch time! There are also such strong curriculum links with various subjects whereby all children from Nursery to Year 6 have their weekly session in the Edible Playground to deepen their learning.
The International School Award is a prestigious badge of honour for schools that can bring an international dimension to teaching and learning. The accreditation means we are developing our school’s international dimension and embedding it into the curriculum and whole school ethos. We work with our global partners to help bring the school together and improve its sense of collective ethos and identity.
The prestigious Gold Games Mark has been awarded to Blessed Sacrament for our commitment, engagement and delivery of a wide range of competitive school sports. OFSTED regard the use of school sport funding at Blessed Sacrament as effective, allowing pupils the opportunity to participate in a wide range of quality sports. We are very proud of the way in which our pupils embrace the sporting opportunities afforded to them, always aiming high and striving to be the best they can be.
The Early Years Quality Mark is awarded to a setting or school to recognise and celebrate their provision, practice, performance and improvements in literacy, language and mathematics. It provides a framework for self-evaluation and continuous improvement of the basic skills of all pupils in the Early Years.
At Blessed Sacrament, a whole school approach is taken to improving standards in literacy language and mathematics through activities suitable for both the stage of development that a child has reached as well as their interests.

At Blessed Sacrament, we have been on an exciting journey where we have achieved the different levels of the British Council’s International School Award. We have progressed from the Foundation and Intermediate certificates to the full ISA award. The accreditation comes from the British Council for embedding international learning into our curriculum. We plan to collaborate with and mentor other local schools. We have very enthusiastic teachers who successfully integrate global issues and international awareness into a range of subjects. We have a history of participating in whole school activities and projects such as Climate Week challenges, WWF wildlife adoptions, Arts projects and Awe and Wonder weeks. We have collaborated with other schools in Leeds, Kisima in Kenya, Valencia and Lochinvar in Scotland. We currently have a penpal project between year 2 and a school in Northern Ireland. We have successfully completed a three year Connecting Classrooms project with Palestine, where we were the lead/hub school. We have also achieved European eTwinning labels. Our new Learning Challenge curriculum is proving to be very popular with both children and staff. Geography and History drive the challenges so we are learning about our world across the whole school. Our school trips are usually linked to our ISA and Eco-Schools work. Our international work must also include an awareness of our own cultural identity so Year 1 children will soon be visiting The Cavern to celebrate the legacy of The Beatles. So, as parents, if you visit any exciting places you could send a photo of your child into school showing the location. The Primary Science Quality Mark is an award scheme to enable primary schools across the UK to evaluate, strengthen and celebrate their science provision. It's framework ensures realistic self-evaluation and measured progress towards achievable targets. It necessitates whole school impact and success improving scientific experiences and out-comes for all children - and teachers. Blessed Sacrament Primary School achieved the Silver Award in April 2015. Overall Comment: "The portfolio captures great variety and fabulous images of children engaged and enthused by their science. We hold the Sustrans Silver Bike IT award for our commitment to give our children the information and skills they need to be able to cycle safely to school on a regular basis. We actively promote healthy travel to and from school. We also offer our Year 5 and 6 children the opportunity to gain a cycling proficiency certificate each year and offer additional help learning to ride a bike if needed.

Eco-Schools is an international award programme that guides schools on their sustainable journey, providing a simple framework to help make sustainability an integral part of school life. Eco-Schools helps to enhance the curriculum and get the whole school united behind something important. Our Eco mission at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Primary is to help bring about behaviour change in young people and those connected to them so that good habits learned in schools are followed through into homes and communities.The Eco-Schools programme is a long term journey and implementing change takes time and needs careful planning and consideration. At Blessed Sacrament catholic Primary we think that it's a journey well worth taking and we intend to persevere and attempt to educate our school family in ways in which they can support us to achieve our eco aims. The children at Blessed Sacrament remain as passionate as ever about being responsible, global citizens. Our mission statement promotes working within our school, church, parish and local communities. Our Eco-Schools work and our International Schools work develop the local community and global community dimension.
Opportunities for Eco-Schools work can be found throughout our curriculum. Our Eco-Team children meet regularly with their Eco-Adults and they lead us forward with their ideas and plans. The extended schools team also run reuse and recycle projects. Our admin team and site manager always expect us to reduce the paper we use and they source school materials responsibly. Did you know that we link as many school trips as possible to the learning objectives expected by Eco-Schools and International Schools? The Junior School achieved Bronze and Silver awards and the Infant School achieved two Green Flags. We are so proud of our children and their achievements. We now have an exciting time ahead as we aim to achieve a new Green Flag across the whole, new Primary School. We have offered to mentor other local schools that are starting their journeys and aiming to achieve these awards. Our Eco-Team will lead a conference to explore solutions to local and global issues. The children will lead the way in developing a local project in Jasmine’s Garden. We will also have some exciting news for you soon regarding the International elements to our Eco-Schools work. The National Literacy Trust was commissioned by Liverpool's School Improvement Service to develop a Reading Quality Mark for primary and secondary schools to support schools in raising attainment levels. Qualitative impacts include improving children's and young people's participation in a range of reading activities and events, improved attitudes to reading for pleasure, providing motivation, increasing aspirations and supporting articulacy. Blessed Sacrament have successfully been awarded a Silver level Quality Mark.
Healthy Schools enables and supports schools to plan and implement health and well-being improvements for their children and young people. As a Healthy School we promote physical and emotional health by providing accessible and relevant information and equip pupils and staff with the understanding, skills and attitudes to make informed decisions about their health. Pupils flourish in a positive environment and are given a voice to influence whole-school decisions. As a Healthy School we understand the importance of investing in health to help pupils do their best, raise levels of achievement, improve standards and develop policies and practices to promote health. Our Healthy Schools status means at Blessed Sacrament we adopt a whole-school approach, involving the whole-school community, parents/carers, governors, staff and pupils in improving our children’s health.
Blessed Sacrament Catholic Primary School is delighted to have become an expert centre in the Global Learning Programme. Our school already has years of experience in global learning and currently holds the full, British Council, International School Award. We now have the remit to establish a strong network of local schools through leading good practice as the GLP Expert Centre or hub school. We will provide local, peer-led training and support for teachers in Partner Schools. At Blessed Sacrament, we embrace the aims of the Global Learning Programme. It strengthens our school ethos and values. It promotes skills such as enquiry, discussion, reflection, taking appropriate action and evaluation. We aim to help our children to understand their role in a globally interdependent world and to explore strategies by which they can make it more just and sustainable. Our children consider values such as respect for diversity and rights. GLP schools across the country are already experiencing the positive impact that global learning can have on pupils’ engagement, knowledge, skills and values. The GLP will provide our school with a new wealth of opportunities and benefits. We will look forward to expanding our global awareness, deepening curriculum knowledge and understanding and supporting teacher professional development.
Blessed Sacrament is proud to be a Centre of Excellence for Spanish. We value the importance of learning a modern foreign language and we continue to encourage our children and staff to contribute positively to the teaching and learning of Spanish across the school, from Nursery to Year 6.
The Inclusion Charter Mark is an award given by the Local Authority as accreditation for excellent SEND practice. We are delighted that our recent achievement shows our school "both values and demonstrated exceptionally high standards in inclusive practices" and states that "Blessed Sacrament is a very inclusive school". It also highlighted that as a school we work proactively driving improvements in SEND and Inclusion forwards and we have high aspirations for our children with SEND and their families. The school's motto echoes this sentiment in it's Catholic Values in "Aim High - live life to the full" (John 10-10).
Healthy Schools Award
At Blessed Sacrament Catholic Primary School we are proud to be a Healthy School.
Change4Life’s new healthy eating campaign Sugar Smart 2016 has now launched. Focusing on the new sugar guidelines, it will provide families with the knowledge and tools they need to help them cut down on sugar. Change4Life Sugar Smart Initiative (Friday 15th January 2016) Further resources, including recipes and ideas for healthy swaps, are available online to help parents take control of the sugar in their child’s diet. The Change4Life Sugar Smart app can be downloaded. It is designed to show quickly and easily how much sugar is in the food and drink you’re having. Just scan the barcode and see how much sugar it contains.
